Jannik Sinner's 2025 brilliance continues to generate awe. This time, the praise comes from one of tennis' most influential coaches, Patrick Mouratologu.
The famous coach highlighted the scale of Jannik's statistical supremacy and underlined the fact Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic failed to achieve that during their prime years.
For the first time since the beginning of the ATP stats, a player finished the season as the most efficient player in both serve and return games - a combination previously untouched!
Federer built his dominance on serve plus the first shot. On the other hand, Djokovic and Nadal wrapped up their dominant seasons while suffocating return pressure. However, none managed to rule both ends of the game simultaneously.
Now, Sinner is a proud owner of this incredible milestone! The Italian wrapped up the season behind Carlos Alcaraz. However, he took charge in the closing stages of the year and claimed four titles in his five post-US Open tournaments.
Sinner's 2025 numbers were not just strong - they were historically complete! The San Candido native embraced 775 service games this year and successfully defended his initial shot in 713, which is 92%!
Jannik also stole 32.63% of the return games, besting Carlos and collecting an incredible achievement that will take some beating in the future. The four-time Major winner excelled in isolated phases.
He also controlled every opening stage, neutralizing opponents' strengths and dictating patterns regardless of surface, conditions or the rival across the net. Sinner lost four notable finals to Alcaraz between May and September.
However, he brought improvements to the closing stage of his season and left everyone behind, gathering a massive boost ahead of 2026. Mouratoglou framed it simply!
Sinner has become the first player since the start of the ATP Tour to master the sport's two most decisive components at once. As we already said, the ultimate legends of our sport missed that feat during their prime years.
"Jannik is currently the world's best player on serve and return, considering the first shot, which is unique. We have already seen players dominate one side of this equation - Roger on serve+1 and Novak and Rafa on the return.
However, Jannik is the first player in history to collect both," Patrick Mouratoglou said.
