As everyone knows, Jannik Sinner will not play the 2025 edition of the Davis Cup Finals scheduled in Bologna next month and this decision has sparked a real uproar in his country. The world number 2 he played a decisive role in allowing Italy to triumph in the last two editions in Malaga has been accused of disrespecting his national team by Italian legend Nicola Pietrangeli, who has never been tender towards the 24-year-old from Sesto Pusteria.
The former world No.1 has expressed his desire to recharge his batteries after the Nitto ATP Finals, in which he will try to defend the title he won twelve months ago. He wants to make a very careful preparation for the 2026 Australian Open, a tournament he cares about a lot and in which he lifted the trophy in both 2024 and 2025.
A few hours ago, the news was made official that the four-time Grand Slam champion will be the protagonist of an exhibition match with his huge rival Carlos Alcaraz in Seoul (South Korea) on January 10, 2026 and it will be a very useful test to assess his level before arriving at Melbourne Park for the first Major tournament of the new season.

Sinner is criticized
Meanwhile, Italian Davis Cup captain Filippo Volandri gave a long interview to 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' in which he spoke again about Jannik's decision: "From a theoretical point of view there is the possibility of calling him up again, but when such a decision is made it is very unlikely that the initial idea will be changed. We remain available to him, but honestly I don't expect a change."
The former ATP ace also added: "All the best players have missed this event at some point in their careers, even legends like Federer and Nadal. The Davis Cup is played at the end of the season and every year is different from the others, without forgetting that Sinner's season has been very particular and we all know why."
