WWE is catching heat from fans after Cody Rhodes was a no-show at the May 16 episode of SmackDown in Greensboro, NC, despite being prominently advertised as one of the featured superstars.
Rhodes was front and center on WWEs promotional banner for the event and listed as one of the top names slated to appear, but when the show went down, the American Nightmare was nowhere to be seen.
Fans who attended the event took to social media to express their frustration. One fan tweeted, The really false advertised Cody. Yall cant be serious. Another wrote, Why have Cody Rhodes advertised for tonights #SmackDown when it was never the plan for him to return yet?
Others echoed the sentiment, calling out WWE for misleading fans who paid to see Rhodes. WWE really tricked us fr, they falsely advertised Cody Rhodes for Smackdown, another fan posted.
One particularly frustrated attendee said, WWE advertising Cody Rhodes for the Greensboro show and then having zero top stars not there is a good way of telling me to stay clear of never attending any WWE show that comes here.
Rhodes was initially pulled from promotional materials for previous events but was reinstated for the May 16 SmackDown, leading many to believe he would finally make his return. WWE is also advertising Rhodes for the upcoming May 23 episode of SmackDown in Savannah, GA, but after the Greensboro incident, fans are skeptical about whether hell actually show up.
With Cody Rhodes remaining silent on social media and WWE continuing to advertise him despite his absence, the situation has left many fans feeling cheated.
