The England international had originally received a suspended sentence of 21 months and 10 days in 2020 after being found guilty of repeated bodily harm, attempted bribery, violence against public employees and insult. His legal team immediately lodged an appeal, which under Greek law nullified the conviction and triggered a full retrial.After being postponed on four occasions between 2023 and 2025, proceedings resumed in Syros on Wednesday. The court concluded that Maguire was guilty of non-serious assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery.With the charges deemed less severe than those in the original ruling, the sentence was reduced to 15 months, suspended.Sources indicate Maguire denies any wrongdoing and intends to appeal to the Supreme Court. The 32-year-old has previously declined opportunities to settle the case out of court, maintaining his determination to clear his name through the legal process.Despite the ruling, Maguire remains part of the United squad for Wednesdays Premier League fixture at Newcastle, having recovered after being forced off through illness in Sundays win over Crystal Palace.
