After off WWE TV, Santos Escobar made a return on Saturday nightbut not in WWE.
Escobar appeared unannounced during Lucha Libre AAA Worldwides debut broadcast on FOX Latin America, marking his first on-screen appearance since July 27, 2025. The segment saw a masked figurewearing Escobars old El Hijo del Fantasma gearconfront AAA Latin American Champion El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr., lay him out, and then reveal himself to be Santos Escobar. This surprise moment ended Escobars lengthy hiatus and kicked off what appears to be a high-profile return to his roots in AAA.
Shortly after the segment aired, WWE posted a video of Escobar backstage, where he issued a brief but cutting statement on his absence and return.
Escobar re-signed with WWE in October 2025 after briefly entering free agency. He reportedly turned down WWEs initial offer due to creative concerns, but eventually agreed to a multi-year deal once those issues were resolved. His return to AAAwhile still under WWE contractsuggests the company is supporting his international presence as part of his renewed push.
While Escobars past in AAA as El Hijo del Fantasma is well-documented, this updated version of the star seems poised to make a new kind of impactand hes doing it on his terms.
