Ugo Humbert reveals he picked up "a stupid" injury in the spring and also admits that his decision to play through it wasn't the smartest.

After winning Marseille in February and participating in the Double Sunshine the following month, the Frenchman played at the UTS Nimes in early April.

During the event launched by Patrick Mouratoglou, Humbert sustained a finger injury. After having it checked out, the Frenchman was told that his finger was broken and was advised to take a couple of weeks off. But the former world No. 13 had no interest in sitting out the clay season and he continued to play.

Humbert, who is left-handed, played with a splint and a bandage on his right hand for the next two months. Needless to say, it didn't go well for the 27-year-old, who went 2-5 during the clay swing.

Yeah, my season was not easy. I mean, physically and mentally had some stupid injuries during the season, so I felt not 100 percent on the court. So its not a great feeling when you are a player, the world No. 37 told Express-Sport.

Humbert on how his 'stupid' injury occurred: I slipped in the bathroom and heard my finger crack

If I explain [how I did it], I will be really stupid! But I was in the bathroom and it was water on the floor and I slipped and my finger took something, the angle of something and I heard like a big crack and I know I knew it was something bad," the seven-time ATP champion explained.

It was, at the end, a stupid thing with my little finger broken. During those two months, it was difficult. I couldn't do any backhand."

After having a rough clay season, Humbert bounced back during the grass swing by reaching the semifinals in 's-Hertogenbosch and Eastbourne. In late 2025, the Frenchman also finished as runner-up in Stockholm and enjoyed a semifinal outing in Basel.

In the same interview, Humbert claimed that he would not do the same mistake twice and said that he was well-prepared for the start of the new season.
