Belinda Bencic pulled off a comeback win at the World Tennis Continental Cup after beating Wang Xinyu 4-6 6-2 10-5.
This Friday, the WTCC- a mixed team event which pretty resembles the Laver Cup - kicked off its inaugural edition in Shenzhen.
In the opening match of the event, Bencic - the Tokyo Olympics and the world No. 11 - made a slow start against China's Wang, but managed to overturn the deficit and give her side an early lead over World Team.
For the Swiss tennis star, this was her first match since she gave a walkover to Cristina Bucsa in the Hong Kong quarterfinal on October 31st.
A bit interestingly, this was the second meeting between Bencic and Wang, and the second that came in an exhibition tournament. Previously, the Swiss former world No. 4 beat the 57th-ranked Chinese at the Kooyong Classic in 2018.
After Bencic and Wang, a real showdown is next up at the WTCC
The second match of the eventwill see two Grand Slam champions taking on each other - Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina.
Needless to say, the Swiatek and Rybakina matchup is one of the most intriguing ones in the women's game. The Pole represents Europe Team, while the Kazakh plays for World Team.
