Barbora Krejcikova's comeback didn't go well after the 2024 Wimbledon champion was forced to retire in her first match back in Limoges.
If you can recall, Krejcikova - who also missed the first four months of 2025 due to illness -retired injured from her Beijing third-round match on September 28th. The following day, the former world No. 2 announced that she was taking a break to address her lingering knee injury. While the expectation was that the 29-year-old Czech's 2025 season was over, she seemingly wanted to test her knee and signed up for this week's WTA 125 (Challenger) tournament in Limoges.

After former world No. 11 Anastasija Sevastova took the opening set 6-4, the Latvian also claimed an early second-set break. Down by a set and a break, Krejcikova emphatically stormed back to take the second set with a 6-3 scoreline and force a decider. But then, the 2024 Wimbledon winner was forced to retire midway through the second game of the third set.
How Krejcikova described her injury in September?
When announcing a break from tennis, the 29-year-old admitted that her knee issue was more serious than expected.

"Moments like these are never easy... I was excited for this Asian tour and was looking forward to every moment on and off the court. Unfortunately, I had to cut it short earlier than expected due to an injury. After trying yesterday, it became clear that it was more serious than I thought. I still don't know how long my recovery will take. I will return to Europe to meet with my medical team and focus on my recovery, step by step," the former world No. 2 wrote on X at the time.
This year, Krejcikova went just 16-10 and has plummeted to No. 199 in the world.
