Williams' first daughter Olympia was 3 when she had her first tennis lesson
During the pandemic and lockdown, Williams wanted Olympia - who was 3 at the time - to be active. And the former world No. 1 figured out that tennis was the safest and best option.
Honestly, we started because its a socially safe sport, and when COVID happened, it was like, were just in the house with a 3-year-old, what do we do? There was only one answer, to my dismay," Williams explained to PEOPLE in 2021 when explaining how Olympia got into tennis.
At the time, the American tennis icon also revealed that she had signed up Olympia for tennis lessons.
"I signed Olympia up for tennis lessons. Dont even start with me because Im not giving her tennis lessons, I signed her up for some. But the lady has no idea that its my daughter, so well see how that goes. Im not a pushy mom, but I know how I like techniques, I want to make sure shes good at teaching Olympia some techniques," Williams said at the time.
