Fellow Australian and 3x Bulls champion Luc Longley has noticed Josh Giddey making waves and is excited by what he sees.
The Bulls are looking the best they have in a number of seasons, largely thanks to the 23-year-old year old from Melbourne.
Longleys ties with Giddey arent just because they are both Australian.
In the late 80s, Longley played junior representative basketball with Warwick Giddey, Joshs dad.
Its a little bit surreal for me, Longley told The Guardian. Especially with my connection to his old man.
The wind seems to have shifted in Chicago this season, and instead of looking like a lottery team, the Bulls started the season 5-0 for the first time since the 1996-97 season.
Giddey is a huge part of that, providing an offensive spark whilst averaging a near-triple double of 20.4 points, 10.1 rebounds and 9.7 assists.
The young Aussie has recorded 22 career triple doubles and is now 24th on the all-time list.
This means he has more than Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Kyle Lowry, Michael Ray Richardson and Chris Webber in their careers.
It was also his 11th triple-double for the Bulls, which puts him in elite company, behind Michael Jordan (28) and Scottie Pippen (15).
Longley believes the Bulls success and Giddeys talent are inextricably linked.
Obviously we dont want to compare him with Michael, but appetite for competition were it to be statted [measured statistically] I think Josh is elite, he said.
Longley has plenty of confidence in Giddey and is excited to see what he can achieve for the Windy City.
I believe in his talent. I believe in his intensity and I think his basketball intentions are pure, Longley says. I really think hes the real thing, and I cant wait to sit in the stands and watch him do it. That would really join the dots for me.
