2023 Australian Open semifinalist Magda Linette reveals she suffered a burnout this year and that was one of the things that contributed to her rough end to the year and losing six matches in a row.
Linette, 33, made a couple of solid results in the first six months of the year as she reached the quarterfinal at the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami and the 500-category tournament in Strasbourg. During the grass season, the Pole made her first semifinal of the year on the grass courts of Nottingham before losing to Dayana Yastremska.
Shortly after making a deep Nottingham run, Linette - who is currently ranked at No. 55 in the world - started to mightily struggle with her form as she lost six consecutive matches between mid-August and mid-October. Following a straight-set Ningbo first-round defeat on October 13th, the former world No. 19 announced she was ending her 2025 season and focusing on her well-being.

Linette: I had burnout... Also had to take antibiotics for certain health issues
"Yes, especially towards the end. Throughout the season, I kept coming back and dropping out again. I had a lot of health problems, something was always untreated. I was taking antibiotics and also had mandatory tournaments, so in the back of my mind I thought I could do it despite the illness," the 33-year-old told TVP Sport.
"In Guadalajara, I wasn't well prepared; I felt like I was in the wrong place. In hindsight, I think it was an unnecessary start, especially since I was flying to China right after. I trained well there, but in stressful and crucial moments, everything fell apart. It was a sign that I needed to stop and take care of myself."
Linette also confirmed to Polish that she definitely intends to return to tennis at the start of the 2026 season. Also, the 2023 Australian Open semifinalist noted that she hopes to return healthy and with a fresh perspective.

Linette went only 1-3 during the Australian swing this year so she won't have many points to defend in the first month of the 2026 season.
