The NBAs brightest young stars are set to collide once again as Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs take on Luka Doncic and the Lakers on Wednesday night. Both teams have stormed out of the gates this season, with the Lakers sitting at 6-2 and the Spurs right behind them at 5-1.
For Wembanyama, this matchup means more than just another regular-season game. The French phenom admitted that going up against Doncic is always a challenge, and one he hasnt figured out yet.
Hopefully the best. Luka is one of the hardest players to scout because he understands and masters the game more than almost anybody else, Wembanyama said, via Spurs Nation. Its always a great challenge. I dont think Ive ever won against him.

So far this season, Wembanyama has been nothing short of dominant, averaging 26.7 points, 13.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and an absurd 4.7 blocks per game. His evolution into a two-way superstar has carried San Antonio into early Western Conference contention, but Doncic and the Lakers are shaping up to be their toughest test yet.
If Los Angeles pulls off another victory, Doncic would improve to 5-0 all-time against Wembanyama, a mark that highlights just how hard the Slovenian guard has been to contain.
Despite dealing with early injuries, including to Doncic himself, the Lakers have surged under head coach JJ Redick, boasting the NBAs fifth-best offense and a field-goal percentage of 52.9 through eight games.
Redick praised the chemistry forming between his stars, noting that Doncic and Austin Reaves have anchored the team with energy and selflessness.
The guys are holding each other accountable to that and then, as a coaching staff, you have to get buy-in into that and our guys are bought in, Redick told Spectrum Sportsnet. You cant win in this league unless you play hard. Its just impossible now and these guys have just been awesome the last seven games.
