Alexander Zverev says Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are "light years ahead" of the rest of the competition, but also highlights that they cannot quit and have to do their best to find a way to challenge the two top-ranked players in the game.
Since 2024, only two players have been lifting Grand Slam titles. At the Masters level, it has been more or less the same story. Overall, world No. 1 Alcaraz and second-ranked Sinner have established themselves as mighty forces and they rarely have issues handling the top-10 opposition.
When Zverev made his third Grand Slam final at this year's Australian Open, he stated that he felt ready to finally become a Slam champion. Then, he was hit by a cold shower after the Italian routed him in three sets in the title match at Melbourne Park.

The remaining three Grand Slams of the 2025 season featured an Alcaraz and Sinner final.
Zverev: Alcaraz, Sinner are light years ahead of us... But we can't just sit quietly
"At the end of the day, I'm still number three in the world. There's a group of players, obviously Jannik and Carlos, who are light years away from us and the rest at the moment. They're much, much better than us , but I think Fritz, myself, and Novak, but also some other players like Draper," the 28-year-old German said.
"I think we can't just say that in the next ten years, Jannik and Carlos will win every single tournament and we'll just sit there and watch. We have to compete against them and we have to keep that in mind. But, again, right now, that's not something I'm thinking about. Health is the most important thing I'm thinking about."

Following his Australian Open final loss, an extremely dejected Zverev admitted that he absolutely didn't want to finish his career without a Grand Slam title. If the German tennis star wants to avoid that fate, he will have to figure out how to beat Alcaraz and Sinner on the biggest stage.
