The Hurt Syndicates undefeated streak in traditional tag team matches came to an end on the October 15 episode of AEW Dynamite.
During the special three-hour WrestleDream go-home edition that doubled as AEW Collision, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin suffered their first tag team loss via pinfall since joining AEW.
The former AEW World Tag Team Champions opened the show from the Cody Dahmer Arena in Kansas City, Missouri, facing off against The Gates of AgonyBishop Kaun and Toa Liona. The match turned into a physical battle between two powerhouse teams, with both MVP and Ricochet getting involved on behalf of their respective sides.
Despite the interference, Kaun and Liona managed to outlast Lashley and Benjamin and pick up a clean pinfall victory. While The Hurt Syndicate has previously lost the AEW Tag Team Titles to Brody King and Bandido of The Brodido, that defeat came in a triple threat scenario and not by direct pinfall in a two-on-two contest.
This loss signals a new chapter for the faction, which had been positioned as a dominant force since their arrival. It also puts The Gates of Agony firmly on the radar as serious contenders in the AEW tag team division.
Whether this is just a brief setback or the start of a longer struggle remains to be seen, but the aura of invincibility around The Hurt Syndicate just took a hit.
