Nick Kyrgios says he has been subjected to "absurd" criticism as the 2022 Wimbledon finalist suggests some of the biggest names of the game also smash rackets, but no one looks at their actions as something too radical.
Kyrgios losing his cool and having on-court meltdowns and outbursts has been a part of the 30-year-old's career since he first started playing on the main level over a decade ago. While the seven-time ATP champion never hid that he was an emotional player and stood behind his actions, it is not a secret that he quickly became one of the most criticized and scrutinized players on the Tour.
As mentioned above, Kyrgios always stood behind his actions. And now, he is doing the same, while also mentioning that icons such as Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic are also no strangers to breaking rackets.

"I just think the whole media in today's day and age is just it's it's a disgrace. It's not even who's right anymore. It's just who's first. They'll just say anything. And some of the things I've seen like written like about me have just been just absurd," the Australian said on UNSCRIPTED by Josh Mansour.
"For instance, the whole like smashing rackets thing and bro, everyone smashes rackets. Like Serena Williams smashes rackets. Novak Djokovic. It's very normal for a tennis player to smash rackets. I just feel like mine has been for some reason flipped on its head. It's like this guy's a disgrace to the game because he smashes racket. I'm like, 'Bro, everyone smashes rackets.' Like every single person to smash the racket."

While Kyrgios is one of the most criticized players of his generation, his game and personality also made him one of the most attractive and entertaining players to watch.
In the past, even certain tournament directors admitted that they wanted Kyrgios in their events because he was selling tickets.
