While speaking on the Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T talked about Jade Cargill getting busted open on SmackDown after Nia Jax threw her into the steel steps. He said it was a mistake that comes from inexperience, noting that in his 20-plus years as a wrestler he never hit his face on the steps.
While being shoved into them can happen, he explained that protecting yourself is important. Comparing it to boxing, he stated the importance of always defending yourself in the ring since anything can happen when you put your body in someone elses hands.
Looking at both sides, Booker T admitted he doesnt know exactly what was communicated in the moment, but believes Jade Cargill needed to do a much better job of protecting herself.
Jade Cargill has since made it clearshe is definitely okay despite the gruesome nature of herinjury, even showing off the nasty cut she received because of the spot.
The controversy surrounding Jade Cargills SmackDown injury shows how fast fans can blame wrestlers, especially if they already have a certain reputation. Booker T reminded everyone that safety in the ring is a shared job; wrestlers must protect themselves while also trusting their opponent. Regardless, we hope such an incident never happens again for everyones sake.
