Garbine Muguruza took to social media to share some happy news as the former two-time Grand Slam champion is expecting her first child with husband Arthur Borges.
After taking an abrupt break from tennis in 2023 February, Muguruza focused on some non-tennis things. During that period, the former world No. 1 got engaged with her long-time partner Borges. Since then, the 31-year-old retired from tennis but also got married in 2024.Now, they are set to expandtheir family.
Muguruza once described her love story with Borges as 'a Hollywood movie-like story'
Several years ago, Muguruza was in New York for the US Open. And during one particular day when she felt extremely bored, the former Spanish tennis star decided to go for a walk in the park. During her stroll, she stumbled upon someone who wished her good luck at the US Open. The rest is history.
We always joke about it, its like a Hollywood movie, its a crazy story. We met in the street in New York, it was love at first sight. It was one of those boring days, I didnt know what to do, so I go for a walk on Central Park as well, and I just bumped into him. I was just like: Wait a minute, youre very handsome, who are you? And hes a tennis fan, so he recognized me and said: Hey, good luck. And thats it, that was enough," the former world No. 1 recalled in 2024.

Since walking away from pro tennis, Muguruza has also done some tennis commentary. Last year, she was named as the tournament director for the WTA Finals in Riyadh, and debuted in her new role in late 2024.
