
World no. 2 Jannik Sinner will compete in his third straight Beijing Open semi-final. The Italian faced Fabian Marozsan in the quarter-final and earned a 6-1, 7-5 victory in an hour and 20 minutes.
Thus, Sinner collected 40 ATP wins for the fifth straight season. World no. 2 dropped 18 points in nine service games and suffered one break from two chances offered to his opponent.
Fabian recovered his tennis after a slow start and served for the second set at 5-4. However, the 2023 champion kept his composure and provided back-to-back breaks to avoid a decider.
The favorite hit 19 winners and 19 unforced errors, whilewelcoming25 mistakes from the Hungarian. The Italian had the upper hand from the baseline and in service winners.
Jannik needed under half an hour to claim the opening set. World no. 2 served well and provided breaks in games three, five and seven. Sinner closed the set with a winner at 5-1, hoping for a similar pace in set number two.
Fabian raised his level and stayed in touch in the opening six games for 3-3. The Italian moved 4-3 in front with a service winner and stepped in on the return in the next one.
Marozsan faced four break points and saved them, escaping and locking the result at 4-4 after the rival's forehand mistake. The Hungarian gained a boost and landed a volley winner in game nine for a break and the advantage.
Instead of building on that, the lower-ranked player performed terribly in the tenth game, losing serve at love and keeping the Italian in contention. Jannik held at 15 in the 11th game and made another push on the return at 6-5.
He broke at love after the rival's backhand error, rattling off 12 of the final 13 points to emerge at the top.
