There is no doubt that players like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have taken men's tennis to another dimension, representing the two current symbols of the ATP tour and having already created a rivalry that has given epic clashes since the famous quarterfinal of the 2022 US Open.
The Italian and the Spaniard have monopolized the Grand Slam tournaments again this season: the 24-year-old from Sesto Pusteria triumphed at the Australian Open and the Wimbledon Championships, while the 22-year-old from Murcia prevailed at Roland Garros by canceling three match points and at the US Open for the second time in his career.
Their level is so high that no other player seems able to counter them, waiting for new talents to emerge and tournaments to become more uncertain. Carlitos currently occupies the first position in the ATP ranking thanks to the amazing results obtained from the spring onwards, with seven titles already won in 2025 alone.
Jannik's season on the other hand was certainly conditioned by the three-month ban due to the doping case, but this did not prevent him from lifting two Grand Slam trophies and competing with his main rival for the first position in the ATP ranking (which he will try to conquer again by the end of this year).
Sinner and Alcaraz have brought new style
In a long interview with 'Tennis365', Spanish ace Pedro Martinez - who dragged Spain to success over Denmark in the Davis Cup - identified Sinner as the emblem of the current game: "Tennis has become much faster nowadays. All players have a very good forehand and backhand, they shoot very hard and you can't see many variations anymore. Most points end in 4-5 shots. Jannik is probably the best example of modern style."
The world number 67 also added: "The game was more tactical before and there were more chances to build points in different ways, in addition to the fact that you went to the net more. To be honest, I preferred the tennis that was played in the past."
