Lorenzo Musetti's season has been very positive so far, although he had an injury during Roland Garros that also affected him in the following months. The talent from Carrara found impressive continuity during the red clay season, reaching the final at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 and the semifinals in Madrid, Rome and especially at the French Open, where he was putting in an excellent performance against Carlos Alcaraz before getting injured.
Lorenzo who made his entry into the Top 10 of the ATP rankings for the first time in his career needed more time than expected to recover from the best sensations and was not brilliant either at the Wimbledon Championships (where he was eliminated in the first round) or during the Masters 1000 in Toronto and Cincinnati.
Musetti is very ambitious
The US Open the last Major of the season allowed Musetti to play his best tennis again, entering the quarterfinals in a Grand Slam on this surface for the first time in his young career. His run in New York ended against his compatriot Jannik Sinner, who proved to be far superior to him in those quick conditions.

However, the Italian star can be satisfied with the progress he has made in recent months and has a very good chance of qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin if he plays well in the upcoming tournaments. Jack Draper will not be able to be present in Turin due to an injury and Novak Djokovic's participation is also in strong doubt (the Serbian legend has only confirmed the Athens ATP 250 for the moment).
Interviewed by Eurosport before his debut in Chengdu, Musetti explained in detail his main goals: "As I already said during the US Open, I hope to participate in the ATP Finals this year. It would really be a dream to play in front of the Italian crowd in such a prestigious event. To achieve this, I have to play well here in China and I'm looking forward to showing the fans my level."
