Daniil Medvedev has opened a new chapter of his career following another failure at the US Open. The former world no. 1 parted ways with his long-term coach Gilles Cervara and brought fresh energy to his team.
The Russian added Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke to his box. The trio is already on the practice court, as Daniil seeks much-needed improvements following a string of poor results, especially at Majors.
Medvedev claimed five ATP titles in the opening five months of 2023. However, he has been without a trophy since May that year, playing in a couple of notable finals but losing them all.
Once among the most consistent players on the Tour, the Russian lost the ground and experienced many setbacks in the previous months, even against the rivals from outside the top-50.
Working with Gilles Cervara since 2017 and winning all of his 20 ATP titles with him, Daniil and his coach parted ways following his latest outburst at the US Open, with the former US Open winner seeking new options.

He quickly found them in Johansson and Goetzke. The Swede is a former world no. 7 and a surprising champion of the 2002 Australian Open. He guided players like Caroline Wozniacki and David Goffin.
Thomas brings the experience both on and off the court. Goetzke worked with Richard Krajicek and Mario Ancic before taking over the IMG Academy in Florida, serving as the director of tennis between 2012 and 2019.
As we already said, the trio is already working. Medvedev aims to regain his top form after a challenging stretch and a fiery US Open exit. The Russian hopes the partnership will help him reset, find consistency and raise his level at the closing stages of the season.
With two experienced coaches by his side, Daniil is targeting a strong finish to the year as he looks to climb back up the rankings and gain momentum ahead of 2026.
