Will Ospreay is officially out of action following a brutal post-match assault at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door and theres no timeline yet for his return.
After helping his team pick up the win in a wild Lights Out Steel Cage Match in London, Ospreay tried to take in the moment with fans. But AEW wasnt done with him. Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson), and Gabe Kidd ambushed Ospreay during the celebration, targeting his neck an area Ospreay had already admitted was in bad shape heading into the match.
The most chilling moment came when Moxley and Castagnoli wrapped a chair around Ospreays neck and stomped it, leaving him motionless in the ring. He was stretchered out immediately after. After the attack, Will Ospreay was taken out of the arena on a stretcher. He is now out indefinitely, AEW announced on Wednesday.
Ospreay had been dealing with neck issues for months. Just before Forbidden Door, he revealed he had received medical clearance but had been told the damage couldnt get worse by wrestling, even though he admitted he still needed corrective surgery. AEW has not yet provided details on a potential operation or recovery timeline.
He had teamed with Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, and Darby Allin to defeat Moxleys squad, which also included Claudio, Kidd, and the Young Bucks. But its clear that victory came at a cost.
With Ospreay now sidelined and the neck injury clearly aggravated, AEW may need to rethink major plans involving the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.
