While the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup has typically awarded the season's best player, the American tour made a very notable change for the 2024-2025 season: the Tour Championship champion, with all thirty qualifiers starting from a clean sheet and equal chances, would be the winner of the FedEx Cup, with substantial prize money. Among them, $10 million for the winner.
All of this was in an attempt to add excitement to the final tournament, which often ended with everything already decided in the race for the tour standings, or at least very close. This year, therefore, the points in the standings didn't matter at all.
Fleetwood, results
Among them, Scottie Scheffler, who has dominated the tour with an iron fist, winning five titles this season, including the PGA Championship and the British Open. However, the undisputed leader of the season's standings, didn't have his best championship at the final Tour Championship and, therefore, is left without the overall PGA Tour title. A bizarre situation that Fleetwood took advantage of to secure his first overall victory on the PGA Tour.

He still hasn't found the ideal formula to fit this tournament into his season's overall standings, and the truth is that Fleetwood perfectly took advantage of the window that opened up, equally for the thirty entrants in the Tour Championship held in Atlanta. With the performance of his life, with tremendous solidity over the four days of competition, the Englishman took the double tournament and overall victory.
With a final score of -18, Fleetwood secured his great victory after not wavering in the final round. Five birdies and three bogeys have kept him out of reach for his rivals, as he has confidently managed his lead in the final stretch of the tournament.
In part, this is because they have faltered from the start. Patrick Cantlay, who had hoped to challenge Fleetwood the most from the outset, faded away from the start with a bogey and double bogey, leaving the lead open to his rival. Four birdies and two subsequent bogeys prevented him from advancing beyond a -15, leaving him unable to reach the final fight.

Russell Henley finished tied with him in second place at -15. With a birdie on the third hole, the American also seemed to be aiming for victory. However, he was stuck in the pars due to his need to make a profit, and his additional bogey and birdie in the final stretch did not allow him to advance beyond that overall score.
Scheffler was left behind them. The American, usually a lifeline on the big stages, has offered his most human self this week, far from excellent, but still tied for fourth at -14 with Corey Conners (eight birdies at the finish) and Cameron Young (five birdies and a bogey).
Scheffler needed to shine in the final round to contend with victory, but he failed to do so, with a rollercoaster of six birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey on the 15th hole that ended all his attempts to attack the lead. Despite his outstanding season, he has yet to retain the FedEx Cup he won in 2024. Rory McIlroy, tied for twenty-third at -6 overall, has been unable to challenge for it at any point.
