Emma Raducanu is thrilled to have Francisco Roig on her side as the Briton reveals she and Rafael Nadal's ex-coach are "a great fit" together and she absolutely loves what the Spanish coach brings to the table.

After being bounced by Amanda Anisimova in the Montreal third round, Raducanu gave a call to Roig, who famously worked with Nadal between 2005 and 2022. And over the past 20 days, they debuted as a player/coach duo in Cincinnati and also had lots of time to practice and get to know each other.

Ahead of her fourth US Open campaign, Raducanu was asked by Sky Sportsif she could reveal how things have been going with Roig so far. The 22-year-old proceeded to praise the 57-year-old's coaching methods before also noting that her coach has a funny side - something she also admires.

Raducanu on coach Roig: We fit great

"I think we get on really well. I think we fit great. He is so experienced, and we have been doing a lot of hours on the practice court, which I think has been helping me, and we both like spending time on the court, which is a good thing. But he also knows when to have fun and switch off, and that's important. It is not just constant seriousness. We work, but we also laugh," the world No. 35 said of her new Spanish coach.

In their first tournament together in Cincinnati, Raducanu made light work of Olga Danilovic 6-3 6-2 in her opening match. Then, the Briton pushed Aryna Sabalenka into an extremely tight setter before the Belarusian scraped past the world No. 35 with a 7-6 (3) 4-6 7-6 (5) win.

Throughout the entire Sabalenka match, Roig very vocally supported Raducanu and pushed her to play her very best. While the 22-year-old fell just short of registering her first win over a world No. 1, it was clear that the Spanish coach was already positively influencing her game.
