WWE had fans on edge all the way to SummerSlam 2025, teasing a possible Cody Rhodes heel turn. From subtle storyline shifts to crowd reactions, speculation was running wildbut now we know it was never the plan.
On the latest episode of WrestleVotes Radio on WrestleBinge, JoeyVotes and TC shut the door on any rumors of Cody turning. They revealed that the tease was intentional and strictly designed to throw off hardcore fans. According to them, WWE has no current plans to turn Cody heel.
They even mentioned how ridiculous it would be to turn Cody while hes still front and center on Minute Maid cartons across stores in the U.S. There had been widespread talk that SummerSlam could feature a double turn, especially with John Cena also involved. But that didnt happen. Instead, it was a straightforward outcomeand Cody remains firmly a fan favorite.
Cody addressed the heel turn conversation earlier this year in an interview with Kay Adams, making it clear that the shift would only happen when the time was right. He didnt give any specific timeline, only saying that the change would come naturally and wasnt on the immediate horizon.
At this point, WWE sees no reason to change whats working. The American Nightmare continues to be a top merch seller, crowd favorite, and one of the public faces of the company.
