Daniil Medvedev has delivered another gem as this time the former world No. 1 abruptly left the court without picking up any of his stuff after losing a tight one to Alexei Popyrin in the Toronto Masters third round.
Medvedev, who hasn't lifted a title since 2023 May and has struggled with his consistency and confidence over the last year or so, made a promising start and took the opening set against defending Canadian Masters champion Alexei Popyrin. But then, the 2021 US Open champion lost the next two sets in the identical way - he dropped his serve in the first games of the second and third sets and that was enough for Popyrin to complete a comeback.

Moments after the match ended, a frustrated Medvedev could have been seen exiting the court literally without anything in his hands. The cameras then pointed out to his bench, where all of his stuff was placed. The commentator was left amused, asking on air: "What's going on here?"
Medvedev's struggles continue
Between 2018 and 2023, the Russian would regularly win multiple titles per year. His best year came in 2023, when he won five titles through May. But since then, the 29-year-old just hasn't been the same player.
In some of his interviews from the past year, Medvedev admitted that he was left behind by the likes of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Also, the current world No. 14 indicated before the start of the 2025 season that he would try to change some things and see if that worked. So far, it hasn't.

The 20-time ATP champion is evidently still holding hope that he could return to his past level and once again be one of the best in the game. It remains to be seen if he can turn the page at the upcoming Cincinnati Masters and the US Open.
