The August 1 episode of WWE SmackDown opened up with a big segment at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
John Cenas heel turn was a long time coming, but it may be over at this point. This week on SmackDown, Cena opened up the show.
Cody Rhodes came out to interrupt John Cena before he was really able to get going. This led Cena to cut a promo that seemingly turned him babyface once again.
John Cena started out by thanking Cody Rhodes for making him take the match at SummerSlam. He said that he realized that he flushed all of his past hustle, loyalty, and respect down the drain five months ago when he took The Rocks deal.
Cena said that everyone who said that they were going to be on his team, like The Rock and Travis Scott, left him all alone. That is when John Cena said that he wants to leave WWE with the championship, but not because he wants to ruin wrestling. Instead, he wants to take it home with him because he doesnt want fans to forget about him.
The street fight match at SummerSlam woke John Cena up, and he promised that fans will see him actually show up. Then he said that August 1, 2025 marks the day when John Cena really returned to WWE.
The promo from John Cena ended with a massive babyface reaction from fans as he proclaimed that the Champ is Here. In the end, he said that fans will be the winners at SummerSlam, as hes finally over my BS, as we see Cody Rhodes take on the greatest of all time at my best. He also said that the only platinum rapper whos showing up to whoop your ass is me.
Cody Rhodes then took off his jacket and got two beers from the timekeeper. At that point, Cody said, welcome back, John Cena and the two toasted a beer in the middle of the ring.
We will have to see what happens at SummerSlam, because things could take a very unexpected turn. Things were certainly unpredictable this week on SmackDown.
