Al Horford and his next move in the NBA remains up in the air as the veteran forward considers his future in the league.

Horfords future remains unclear. A league source said Monday that Horford is taking his time while assessing offers from multiple teams but added that the 39-year-old is considering retirement, too, according to Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe.

Horford, who played a key role in Bostons success last season, appears unlikely to return to the Celtics.

Team president Brad Stevens confirmed that an offer was made but acknowledged the difficult situation.

I dont know what I can say about this or not say about it. Stevens said. I mean, we made offers to both Luke and Al. We wouldve loved to have had both of them back. Id say thats unlikely. The only reason I havent talked about Al is because its not final. I could probably talk about Al my whole press conference and not say enough. But you know, I dont want to speak in absolute terms until an ultimate decision is made. But another guy that, if he were to go and play somewhere else, was an all-time Celtic. A winner, and did everything he could for this organization. Not only from the games but also how he impacted our younger players, who, in a lot of ways, now have to take what theyve learned from the Jrues and the Als and people like that and apply that from a leadership role.

Despite his age, Horfords ability to stretch the floor and provide steady defense still makes him a valuable asset in a limited role.

Horfords experience and leadership could still hold value for contenders looking for depth in the frontcourt. But for now, the five-time All-Star is taking his time before making what could be his final decision.
