John Cena is currently the Undisputed WWE Champion and remains a constant presence on WWE television, but that doesnt mean he cant have fun outside the ring. Thats why fans were especially happy after Cena brought back his iconic Juan Cena character during CCXP Mexico.
While speaking during CCXP Mexico, the host gave John Cena a Lucha Libre mask and joked about bringing Juan Cena on stage. John Cena laughed and thanked them for the Lucha Libre mask, saying he wasnt sure if fans would want him to wear it, saying, Ah yes, Lucha Libre! Yes thank you so much for the gift. But I dont think the fans would want me to wear the mask.
After a lot of teasing and messing around with the mask, John Cena finally wore the mask and screamed in excitement. Afterwards, Cena said it made him feel like a different person, like he had a secret identity. John Cena joked that no one could see him, saying, OOOOOH! How did that feel? I felt like another person. I felt like my secret identity. Yeah you couldnt see me!
Then John Cena smiled and told the crowd that some people might remember a WWE character named Juan Cena, who was a masked wrestler, as he said, Some of these people remember there was a WWE character, a masked wrestler called Juan Cena.
Juan Cena was a short-lived alter ego of John Cena that was used in late 2010 during his Nexus storyline in WWE. After being fired by Wade Barrett and The Nexus, Cena disappeared from WWE TV but quickly returned wearing a mask. The character was called Juan Cena, which was marketed as John Cenas Mexican cousin but obviously that wasnt actually the case.
Juan Cena never made a full TV run and was quickly dropped as the storyline progressed, but it became a cult-favorite for fans who really liked it. Thats why fans were happy to see Cena bring back the character at CCXP, even if it was just for a few seconds.
