According to Fightful Select, AEW insiders had long expected May to jump ship. While her contract didnt officially expire until the start of June, she was quietly removed from the AEW roster page on May 31. Her management at the time claimed she was still under contract, but sources have since confirmed the deal was winding down alongside a few others.

Shed been making moves preparing for life after AEW over the last number of months, the report noted, adding that many in the locker room believed WWEspecifically NXTwas always the landing spot.

AEW reportedly wanted to keep her, but its unclear what kind of offer was made. Those within the company didnt seem to think she left on bad terms. In fact, it looks like both sides handled the exit professionally and without friction.

May was a key part of the Timeless storyline in AEW alongside Toni Storm, which elevated her profile significantly. But with that story wrapped earlier than expected, her focus appeared to shift. WWE pounced, planning her NXT debut in secret and letting it unfold in real time on June 3.
