Dominik Mysterio is still soaking in the compliments he received from John Cena ahead of WrestleMania 41.
During his interview with The Wrestling Classic, Mysterio opened up about how much it meant for Cena to put him over during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show at WWE World.
I think that was super, super dope of him to do that, you know, cuz John doesnt have to do any of that stuff, Dominik said. John doesnt have to hes John Cena, you know? Hes the biggest, if not the biggest, movie star in the world, along with the biggest wrestler currently in the world. And for him to say those things about me, its just really cool to see.
Mysterio recalled how Cena was one of the first major stars he worked with after the pandemic ended, tagging with him and his father Rey Mysterio against Roman Reigns and The Usos. He noted how Cena has seen his entire journey from a young rookie to a heel character, and how special it was for Cena to acknowledge his progress.
Especially because like, you know, I started with him when the pandemic ended, and we had live crowds back. Like, he was the guy that was there for me with the tag matches, giving me advice as a good guy we were both babyfaces at that time, Dominik said.
Dominik also recalled his dark match against Cena after he had turned heel, pointing out how Cena had seen his transformation firsthand.
But the fact that Cena was able to see me from that beginning to then, like, a couple of months later when he came back maybe a year or two later when he came back I was a bad guy then, and I got to wrestle him in a dark match. So, hes seen me through this whole process and what Ive gone through, he explained.
For Dominik, the praise from Cena was particularly meaningful because of his childhood connection to the 16-time world champion.
Ive known that dude since I was a kid. Like, Ive loved the Doctor of Thuganomics, you know? I played his album when I was in school. Before I jumped in the showers, I always had to listen to music or have a speaker on Id play his CD. It was signed for me. Like, I was a Cena mark, you know? But at the end of the day, its really cool to hear that from a guy like that, Dominik said.
