Michael Carrick is expected to remain as Manchester United boss for their Champions League clash with Roma despite their latest defeat at the hands of Chelsea.Carricks position is under huge scrutiny after a dismal start to the season for the Red Devils, which continued with a 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge. The 45-year-old had been given a chance to turn Uniteds form around following their 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth last week, and his side produced an improved performance in the first half in west London, with Matheus Cunha seeing a goal ruled out for offside. But a fine individual effort from Morgan Rogers gave Chelsea the lead, before Lisandro Martinezs bizarre decision to hit Wesley Fofana in the face with his forearm at a corner effectively ended Uniteds hopes. Martinez was sent off for a second bookable offence and Cole Palmer converted the resulting penalty.United have just seven points to their name from nine games and are only outside the Premier League relegation zone on goal difference, but Carrick will be in the dugout on Tuesday, according to multiple reports, with his position set to be reviewed again during the upcoming international break.Following the visit of Roma to Old Trafford, United have a tricky final game before the break as they host Aston Villa next Sunday. Defeat to Unai Emerys men could see United drop into the bottom three.Asked about his future in his post-match press conference, Carrick said: Im just looking forward to getting the boys ready for midweek now.Carrick inspired United to a third-placed finish as interim boss last season after taking over from Ruben Amorim. Now there is increasing talk around United being in a relegation battle, though that is not something to which Carrick is paying attention.Weve got to keep moving forward and winning games, simple as that, he added.Theres no words that Im going to explain to you now that makes it [being in relegation zone] any difference, its not going to change it.Weve got to move forward and win football matches, its as simple as that. You can look at it like that [negatively] and you can look at how far you can move up the league quite quickly if you win football matches. So thats the way its got to be approached, for sure.I think it was as good as weve played for some time in the first half. We looked dangerous, we looked fluid, we looked like a good team and we looked really dangerous. We could, should, have scored one or two, maybe three even with the chances and the spaces that we created, and then the game gets away from us.The second half got away from us, which is something weve got to deal with, you know.Sometimes you get setbacks in games and youve got to deal with that better, you know, from being in such a good place first half. The two halves of football couldnt probably be more further apart in some ways.
