The Minnesota Timberwolves have been dealt a major injury blow, with superstar Anthony Edwards reportedly requiring surgery on his right knee that could keep him sidelined for more than two months. The 25-year-old is expected to undergo an arthroscopic procedure after dealing with persistent knee problems dating back to last season, according to ESPNs Shams Charania. While initial reports suggested Edwards could return within two months, that timeline may be considerably longer.Edwards is scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday, with the belief is its going to be more than two months, according to The Athletics Jon Krawczynski.Minnesota has yet to officially confirm the procedure or provide a recovery timeline. The injury comes just four games into the new season, with Edwards averaging 33.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2 steals while shooting 40 percent from three-point range. His right knee has been an ongoing concern since last seasons playoffs, when he battled a condition commonly known as runners knee.Edwards also suffered a separate left knee injury during Minnesotas first-round playoff series against Denver, before returning for the teams second-round elimination against San Antonio.Despite focusing on recovery throughout the offseason, the issue resurfaced almost immediately. The Timberwolves guard reportedly tweaked his knee during Minnesotas season-opening victory over Miami, according to The Athletic. He was then seen grabbing his right knee following a collision against Toronto on Sunday.Despite being listed as questionable for Mondays matchup against Cleveland, Edwards played 41 minutes and delivered an impressive 47-point performance. The latest setback is particularly concerning for a Timberwolves team that has opened the season 3-1 following significant offseason changes. With Edwards now facing an extended absence, LaMelo Ball is expected to shoulder a greater offensive responsibility, while Ayo Dosunmu could move into the starting lineup.READ MORE: NBA Casualty Ward: Jalen Williams, Lauri Markkanen & More
