EmailPrintFormer Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is calling for a thorough investigation by the Southlake (Texas) Police Department of an incident on Sunday that resulted in him receiving a citation for assault.Bryant, 37, told Outkick that he confronted two drivers in a parking lot of a Mexican restaurant after they allegedly cut him off in traffic Sunday. He told the media outlet that he wanted to tell them to drive safer, but when an argument ensued with one of the men, who Bryant described as a young adult, that driver insinuated that "he'll shoot me or whatever." Bryant told Outkick that he told the man that if he pulled out a gun, "you better use it because if you don't, I'm going to do something to you."Bryant, however, said the man never pulled out a weapon and instead took out his cell phone to record him. Bryant proceeded to knock the phone out of the man's hand. The man then called police, which Bryant said he encouraged because he believed they would investigate the alleged threat against him. When police arrived, an officer ordered all three men to the ground at gunpoint and put them in handcuffs. Bryant's girlfriend later came to the scene with his two daughters and recorded the incident. Bryant provided the video to Outkick."I was really more so concerned about my children, you know, looking at their dad, you know, being on the ground with a gun pointed at me," Bryant told Outkick.Southlake police spokesperson Capt. Blas Hernandez said in a news release obtained by the Dallas Morning News that officers arrived to the scene with their weapons drawn because 911 calls indicated there was "a possible weapon" at the scene. He wrote that the officers' approach to the scene was a "precaution to address any potential threats and ensure the safety of everyone at the scene."Bryant told Outkick that the police only viewed the man's recording and didn't review surveillance footage, including from the traffic incident. He told Outkick that only he received a citation from police.According to an online record, Bryant was cited for assault by contact with an initial hearing set for Nov. 20. The citation carries a fine of $367.Bryant called the police investigation "very one-sided" and said one officer told him that he should be "the bigger person."He said he reached out to Outkick because, "my reputation mean everything to me.""Treat everybody fair. Treat everybody fair. Treat everybody with respect," he said, when asked by Outkick what he wants from police. "Do your due diligence on what's actually going on."Bryant, who last played in the NFL in 2020, was a three-time Pro Bowl selection in his career. He still ranks first all-time in Cowboys franchise history in touchdown receptions (73), fourth in receptions (531) and sixth in receiving yards (7,459).
