It means Tim Patrick, who returned last week from a four-week stint on IR , likely will start alongside Garrett Wilson when the Jets (2-3) face the New England Patriots (3-2) on Sunday at Gillette Stadium.Rookie Omar Cooper Jr., who has missed four games with a high ankle sprain, also could be a factor as he was designated to return from IR.Mitchell's injury has been a mystery. Glenn has been evasive, claiming last week he didn't know if the finger was fractured or sprained and saying there was no surgery. On Wednesday, Glenn opened his news conference by saying he wanted to provide "some clarity" on the injury."So he did have a small procedure on his hand," Glenn said. "But the good thing is, man, he's moving his fingers around really, really well."Glenn said Mitchell waited about a week to 10 days before opting for surgery because he wanted "to see how he progressed and then wanted to go ahead and get it knocked out."Mitchell has remained on the 53-man roster. The Jets could've put him on IR when it occurred, which would've created a roster spot for another player. He had nine receptions for 122 yards in the first two games. Since then, the Jets' receivers not named Wilson have produced only seven receptions and one touchdown. The Jets are hopeful that Cooper, one of three first-round draft picks, can contribute immediately. He lasted only five snaps in the opener before injuring his ankle. One of those plays was a dazzling catch-and-run that covered 30 yards."Obviously, he's a really good player, but you never want any rookie to actually miss time because the reps are valuable for these guys," Glenn said of Cooper. It looks like the Jets will be without running back Breece Hall (quadriceps) for the third straight game. Once again, Hall is listed as week-to-week. He didn't practice on Wednesday. They will continue to lean on Braelon Allen, who rushed for a career-high 116 yards and one touchdown in last Sunday's 17-12 win over the Cleveland Browns.
