A lot of responsibility comes with being the AEW World Champion, and for Will Ospreay, he not only wants to represent All Elite Wrestling on a global stage, but he also wants his current reign as champion to bring a competitive nature back to wrestling. In an interview with the UK's "Extreme Sports Channel," Ospreay explained that the one thing he wants to do in his reign as champion is to bring a sports presentation back to wrestling that he thinks has been lost in recent years."I like to look at like big boxing main events like the Conor Benn one that just happened and was like a huge thing, and I feel like my whole being with wrestling is I live to put the sports presentation behind it. I feel like there's matches, like brand new concept matches that we could really bring to AEW that like I've kind of thought about doing, and just something that's never been done before. It's something that like I'd love to tease and I'd love to bring back a little bit more of like a sports atmosphere. Like honestly, the World Cup was super inspiring to me, like watching everybody come together and like, I love the drama of like seeing people coming from behind as well. So they're kind of like my points I would like to put on a title reign."Ospreay went on to say that he feels like he's one of, if not the best sports-based wrestlers in the world right now, so he wants to be put in matches and stories that can emphasize that. He could get a chance of that at the upcoming AEW WrestleDream 2026 pay-per-view with the inaugural Clockwork Carnage match for the AEW World Championship, a match Ospreay helped design with the idea of it being the ultimate endurance test for a wrestler. However, he will have to successfully defend his crown against Kazuchika Okada at AEW Grand Slam France for that to become a reality. Please credit "Extreme Sports" when using quotes from this article, and give a H/T to Wrestling Inc. for the transcription.
