EmailPrintOpen Extended ReactionsNew Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, who has been on injured reserve after suffering another hamstring injury, is said to be making progress and feeling good but is still considered to be weeks away from returning to action, league sources told ESPN.The Saints are taking a patient, long-term approach with Tyson, who is not likely to return until Week 7 at the earliest, according to league sources.A Week 7 return for Tyson also would present some logistical complications, as the Saints are scheduled to play the Pittsburgh Steelers that week in Paris. New Orleans has a bye in Week 8 before a home game in Week 9 against the Cleveland Browns. With the bye in Week 8, a potential Week 9 return might be the most logical course of action for the Saints' first-round pick, according to sources. It would give an additional couple of weeks of rest for Tyson, who has had a history of hamstring injuries. The Saints have been intentionally deliberate with Tyson, knowing how much of their future they envision him being a part of. There will be medical checkpoints for Tyson to clear soon, and the Saints are pleased with where he's at in his recovery.Tyson, the eighth overall pick in this year's NFL draft, is eligible to return this week after the Saints' Week 4 game against the Atlanta Falcons on "Monday Night Football."But Saints coach Kellen Moore told reporters last Thursday that he did not expect Tyson to rejoin the Saints for practice this week.Tyson, 22, suffered a right hamstring injury on Aug. 13 during a joint training camp practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Moore said at the time that it was a different injury than the hamstring issues that Tyson dealt with during his college career at Arizona State. He missed three games last season for the Sun Devils because of a hamstring injury."We'll just see," Moore said Saturday when asked how close Tyson was to returning. "He's still with the trainers right now, so that's the focus right now from a rehab standpoint. And once some football stuff comes up, obviously we'll open up a window and we'll go from there."Tyson's return would be a huge boost to the Saints, who have been thin at wide receiver despite boasting one of the NFL's top passing attacks. New Orleans enters Monday night's contest averaging 281.3 passing yards per game, the fourth-highest in the NFL.But besides star Chris Olave and No. 2 wideout Devaughn Vele, the Saints have gotten little production from the rest of their wide receivers. The only receivers other than Olave or Vele to have even recorded a catch over the Saints' first three games are fourth-round rookie Bryce Lance, who has eight receptions for 50 yards, and Kevin Austin Jr., who has one catch for seven yards.
