The Sky Blues went down 5-0 and had summer signing Taiwo Awoniyi sent off for a shocking elbow on Maxime De Cuyper. It was another disappointing collapse from Coventry who competed well in an even first half hour. But their confidence visibly drained once Charalampos Kostoulas put the visitors ahead 10 minutes before the break.Malick Yalcouy doubled Brightons advantage six minutes after the restart and Coventrys challenge was effectively ended due to Awoniyis moment of madness shortly after.Brighton showed no mercy and Pascal Gross added a third from the penalty spot after Bobby Thomas silly foul on Kostoulas before Lewis Dunk hammered a spectacular fourth into the top corner from 25 yards. There was still time for Yasin Ayari to add a fifth with another superb strike to send the Seagulls into fourth spot. Jay Dasilva made a horrible mess of a clearance and the ball fell nicely for Diego Gomez, but he screwed his shot wide from 12 yards.Ephron Mason-Clarke threatened at the other end while Coventrys Jack Rudoni headed over when well placed.Rudoni came close again approaching the half-hour mark, connecting well with a volley at the far post but his shot was superbly saved by Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.Coventry were seeking their first Premier League goal since 2001 and it almost arrived three minutes later when Frank Onyeka lined up a volley only to see his effort tipped over by Verbruggen. But just when Coventry were getting on top, they were caught out by a sucker punch at the other end. Kostoulas reacted quickest to a bouncing ball in the box, nudged it into his path and fired decisively past Carl Rushworth.Coventry went into half-time still very much in the game but the momentum swung firmly in Brightons favour after the restart.Yalcouye made it 2-0 for the visitors with a purposeful run and composed finish before Awoniyi then suffered a complete headless by swinging his elbow into the face of De Cuyper. The atmosphere inside the CBS Arena fell flat and Brighton went through the gears. Gross slotted home from the spot after Kostoulas was felled, Dunk hammered one into the top corner and Ayari showed clinical finishing by curling a late shot past the helpless Rushworth. The Premier League Table Premier League 2026 England #TeamPlayedWonDrawnLostGFGAGDPtsLast 4 1 Arsenal440081712 W W W W 2 Manchester City33007259 W W W 3 Hull City42205238 D D W W 4 Chelsea421110917 D L W W 5 Brentford41307436 D D D W 6 Liverpool41306426 D W D D 7 Everton41305326 D D D W 8 Ipswich4202710-36 W L L W 9 Newcastle31206425 D W D 10 Leeds31203215 D D W 11 Nottingham Forest41214405 W D D L 12 Brighton31118534 W D L 13 Manchester United31117614 D W L 14 Sunderland411235-24 L D W L 15 Bournemouth403167-13 D D D L 16 Crystal Palace4103611-53 L W L L 17 Tottenham402205-52 D D L L 18 Fulham401347-31 D L L L 19 Aston Villa401317-61 L D L L 20 Coventry300305-50 L L L Position 1, 2, 3, 4 : Promotion Champions League (League phase) Position 5 : Promotion Europa League (League phase) Position 18, 19, 20 : Relegation Championship Topics Brighton & Hove Albion F.C.
