FIFA has accused UEFA of a smear campaign against it and its leadership over president Gianni Infantinos failed plans to sell of stakes in the World Cup to private investors. Last week UEFA filed legal papers in America requesting disclosure of evidence and documents from Fifaas part of potential criminal claims in Switzerland.UEFA accused Infantino of criminal mismanagement and a fraudulently off-market price promoted by [him] for his own benefit over the Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) scheme, which was scrapped after instense backlash from across the footballing landscape.FIFA has now filed a response in a New York court, saying: While these applications are styled as legal pleadings with captions and docket numbers, they are little more than press releases in further support of UEFAs smear campaign against FIFA and its leadership.More to follow.
