The Orlando Magic have fired head coach Jamahl Mosley following their playoff exit at the hands of the Detroit Pistons.Orlando reached the playoffs via the play-in tournament and then led the Pistons, the one seed in the NBAs Eastern Conference 3-1 after Game 4.But the Pistons squared the series by surviving two eliminations games before winning the decisive Game 7 emphatically, a 116-94 triumph ending Orlandos season and, ultimately, Mosleys time in charge. Mosley was hired as head coach in 2021, with this playoff campaign marking a third in as many seasons under his leadership. But each of those campaigns ended in the first round, and the collapse against Detroit convinced President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman that a change was needed. Were grateful to Jamahl for all hes done for the Orlando Magic, said Weltman in a news release. We appreciate his leadership and the positive contributions he made as head coach. While this was a difficult decision, we feel its time for a new voice and fresh perspective. We wish Jamahl and his family nothing but the best.
