Bernard Tomic may not have been granted an Australian Open main draw wildcard, but he will be competing at Melbourne Park since he has entered the qualifying event.

The Australian, who is currently ranked at No. 184, was far from making the cut for the opening Grand Slam of the year. However, his ranking is still good enough to enter qualifying of any Major.

As you probably know, Tomic has a tense history with Tennis Australia and he hasn't received a main draw wildcard for any Australian main-level tournament in many years. A lot of it stems from the 33-year-old's past comments about Lleyton Hewitt, who has served as Australia's Davis Cup captain for a decade now.

When it specifically comes to the Australian Open, Tomic won three qualifying matches in 2021 to reach the main draw - defeated Yuichi Sugita in the first round - before losing to Denis Shapovalov in the second round. The four-time ATP champion also played qualifying at Melbourne Park in 2022 and 2025, losing twice in the first round.

Tomic hasn't participated in a Grand Slam main draw in five years

Since his 2021second-round showing at Melbourne Park, the 2011 Wimbledon quarterfinalist has several times unsuccessfully tried to reach a Major main draw through qualifying. This year, the former world No. 17 played in qualifying of all Slams except Wimbledon, but didn't have much success.

It remains to be seen if 33-year-old Tomic can deliver in the Australian Open qualifying event and make his first Grand Slam main draw since 2021.
