For decades, fans dreamed of seeing Sting go face-to-face with The Undertaker at WrestleMania. But now we finally have a definitive answer on why that dream match never became realityand it all comes down to Vince McMahon.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer pulled back the curtain on WWEs refusal to book Sting vs. The Undertaker in 2014 after Sting officially joined the company. According to Meltzer, Vince never believed Sting was on the same level as The Deadman, and that personal opinion killed any shot of the match happening.
Meltzer added that under a different regime, the story might have ended differently:
So there it isthe biggest dream match WWE never booked was never even seriously on the table, all because Vince McMahon didnt think Sting was a big enough deal for his audience. Despite Stings legacy in WCW and beyond, that respect never translated under Vinces watch.
