The surprising separation between Carlos Alcaraz and Juan Carlos Ferrero has generated a huge debate.
The decision to break the professional bond with his historic coach represents a huge change for the current world number 1, who is preparing to start a new phase of his career without his mentor. Everyone wants to see how he reacts in 2026, especially considering that Carlitos is coming off the brightest season of his young career with eight titles won.
The 22-year-old from Murcia has finally found that consistency that had been his main weakness in previous seasons and no one thought he would part ways with Ferrero, who would only have two days to renew his current contract.
When he rejected the initial proposal, Alcaraz's team was unwilling to make any changes and the parties came to a shocking separation.
Everyone still surprised
It was certainly not good news for the six-time Grand Slam champion, given that the start of the Australian Open is less than a month away and this tournament represents one of his main goals (being the only Major title he is still missing).

The Spanish star will be followed by an experienced coach like Samuel Lopez at Melbourne Park, but almost no one believes that the latter is destined to be his main coach in the future as well.
Through his official Instagram profile, top coach Patrick Mouratoglou used a brilliant parallelism to comment on the surprising divorce between Alcaraz and Ferrero: "The player must feel understood by his coach and within the Netflix documentary it was understood that they did not have the same philosophy. We all thought it was the perfect couple, destined to last forever, but instead they separated and no one can understand why."
Carlitos and 'Juanki' had been working together for over seven years and Ferrero had declined several tempting offers in order to become the coach of the young player from Murcia. The Spanish ace will certainly have additional pressure in the coming months.
