Rory McIlroy has done great things this season and it was to be expected that he will win many awards after his great performances. The Northern Irish golfer has been waiting for years to achieve success at the Masters, and this year seems to have been fateful for the 36-year-old golfer.
A few months later, Rory also excelled at the Ryder Cup, being of great help to the European team that managed to achieve a significant feat, winning on away soil.
McIlroy doesn't want to stop there though.
After all the successes, Rory McIlroy was rewarded for his work. Namely, the 36-year-old was declared sportsman of the year by RTE Sport, and a few days ago he was also declared BBC sports personality of the year.
This year, McIlroy completed his career Grand Slam and thus went down in golf history. Such awards will certainly be an additional motivation for him to work even harder and be just as dominant next year.

This has been a great night for golf, he said. Theres been golfers that have been up for this award that havent quite done it, and Ive been one of them. But golf was recognised in such a big way, with the team winning and then with my award. Its a big night for golf, and hopefully we can build upon that.

Most golf fans expect the coming year to be all about Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, two golfers likely to compete for Major trophies. Of course, there are plenty of quality golfers on the PGA Tour, with the potential to win Majors trophies and cause problems for this duo.
I still feel like Ive got a few good years in me, he said. Knock on wood, Ive been injury-free. Ive been on tour for half my life, 18 years, but still feel the enthusiasm for the game."
