Thea Hails surprise title win on the December 16 episode of WWE NXT was never meant to happen and now it looks like WWE may be planning to fix the mistake.

According to Fightful Select, WWE is already discussing a rematch between Hail and Blake Monroe following the accidental finish that saw Hail win the NXT Womens North American Championship. While nothing is locked in yet, many expect the bout to take place at NXT New Years Evil.

This comes after PWInsider reported that Hails win wasnt in the script at all. Monroe was originally supposed to retain, but after taking a move that knocked the wind out of her, she couldnt lift her shoulder in time during the pinfall.

Hail, still relatively early in her career, didnt realize Monroe needed time to recover and went straight for the cover forcing the referee to count the fall as a legitimate win.

The confusion was so real that WWE even played Monroes music first, believing she had won before abruptly switching to Hails theme once WWE realized their mistake.

Backstage, the botched finish led to a ton of chaos. Creative had to scramble to rewrite multiple upcoming storylines, which had been built around Monroe still being champion. And now, it looks like WWE might use NXT New Years Evil to officially walk back the title change and put the belt back on Monroe.

For now, Thea Hail is still the champion but if the rematch gets the green light, her reign could end as suddenly as it began.

Do you think WWE should stick with Thea Hail as champion or reverse the mistake and give the title back to Blake Monroe? Drop your thoughts in the comments we want to hear what youd book next.
