Shane Lowry, a popular Irish golfer, has often struggled with weight throughout his long career. The experienced player has lost a lot of weight in the last few seasons, and he attributes the biggest credit to fitness coach Robbie Cannon.

In an interview with the Irish Times, Lowry reflected on the successes at this year's Ryder Cup, where he was one of the most important figures of his team in another great victory for Europe. However, when it comes to body weight, the Irish golfer recalled the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits four years ago, noting that it was probably the heaviest he had ever been.

I go back to the Ryder Cup in Whistling Straits [in 2021], where I was probably as big as I ever was. Like, the worst shape I was in, probably, but I was playing some of the best golf in my life.

It's interesting, I was probably 112, 114 kilos, and now I'm in around 100 kilos, like 99, 100 sort of thing."- he said.

In the continuation of the conversation, Lowry admitted that he has always strived to lose weight, and that the struggle with weight at certain moments became a kind of obsession. However, as he says, having a fitness coach who understands every detail and guides you in the right way makes the whole process much easier.

Look, Ive always been conscious about my weight. Right? And Ive always been that way, and Ive always wanted to lose weight, and I get obsessed with it at times, but having someone like Robbie, who knows the ins and outs and knows the way to do it.- he continued.

Lowry's mindset

Lowry also revealed that he now truly enjoys training, and often plans his entire day around his gym commitments. This clearly shows how much his attitude towards fitness has changed compared to his earlier years.

I generally dont like talking about it too much, but I actually love working out now."- he said.

This approach to training is increasingly present among golfers, although it was not the case before.

Tiger Woods seems to have started this trend, after which an increasing number of professional golfers began to pay serious attention to their physical fitness and appearance, aware of the fact that good form can significantly facilitate their performances on the golf course.
