Jo-Wilfried Tsonga acknowledges Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are dominant forces on the ATP Tour, but the former 18-time ATP champion believes the current two top-ranked players in the game are playing in "a weaker era" and "benefiting" from it.
Tsonga, whose career came to end following a 2022 French Open first-round loss to Casper Ruud, competed against the Big Four throughout his entire career. While the Frenchman managed to achieve some notable such things - such as winning 18 ATP titles and reaching a career-high ranking - he never managed to win a Grand Slam title - and being unable to beat Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal were the main reasons why he never became a Major champion.
Now that the Big Three era is gone, Alcaraz and Sinner have established themselves as dominant forces, splitting the eight Grand Slams that have taken place since 2024. Three of four Grand Slam finals in 2025 featured a clash between the Spaniard and the Italian.
Alcaraz posted a 71-8 record in 2025, while the Italian won 58 of his 64 matches played.
Tsonga thinks Alcaraz and Sinner are playing in a weaker era
I would like to see them play Del Potro, Murray, and a younger Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer in a row. Right now its just the two of them," the 2008 Australian Open runner-up said.
Djokovic, who made the semifinal in all four Grand Slams this year, admitted multiple times this year that Alcaraz and Sinner were a step ahead of him.
It remains to be seen if Djokovic, or someone from the younger generation, can step up next year and win a Grand Slam.
