Jannik Sinner was spotted practicing together with a former WTA Grand Slam champion this offseason as the second-ranked ATP player teamed up with Simona Halep-
Halep, who worked with coach Darren Cahill for a total of six years, became a two-time Grand Slam champion and the world No. 1 under the guidance of the Australian coach. After they split in late 2021, Cahill was appointed by Sinner. You know what happened next as the Australian coach elevated the Italian's game to a completely another level and the 24-year-old now has four Grand Slam titles under his belt, as well as has spent more than 60 weeks at the top spot.
Although Halep is retired, she is spending some time in Dubai at this part year, and coach Cahill seemingly figured out it would be a good idea to pair the retired Roman and Sinner on a practice court.
Fans a bit surprised to see Halep and Sinner practicing
After being suspended for a year and a half, Halep finally cleared her name in early 2024. When the Sinner case came to light and the Romanian saw how it was handled, she stated that the Italian received a different treatment.
I think it is clear that it was judged in a completely different way to my case and I dont believe that is fair at all.I suffered a lot during my whole process and I dont think it was fair that I was not allowed to compete for so long. I believe that all athletes should have the same judgment and be treated the same, regardless of whether they are No 1 or No 200. All I want is to leave that stage of my life behind," the Romanian said in 2024.
Since some interpreted Halep's comments as a shade at the 24-year-old, some fans were left surprised to see the Italian agreeing to practice with the 2019 Wimbledon champion.
