Andy Murray reveals his eldest daughter Sophia "struggled" to adjust to having her father regularly at home after the former three-time Grand Slam champion retired from pro tennis in August 2024.

After dating for a decade, Murray and his wife Kim Sears tied the knot in 2015. The following year, their first daughter Sophia was born. Since then, they have welcomed three more children.

When Sophia was born, Murray was one of the best players in the game as he won his third Grand Slam title during the 2016 season - won his maiden ATP Finals title - and became the world No. 1 for the first time in his career. Although the former world No. 1 started to struggle with major injury issues after the 2017 season, he refused to simply walk away from pro tennis as he underwent two hip surgeries and stayed on the Tour until retiring from tennis during last year's Paris Olympics.

Murray asked if his family had to adjust to him spending more time at home

I think so. Particularly my eldest daughter. The rest of them not so much because, yes I was still playing at the end, but there was also quite a few periods where I was at home a lot through the injuries and things, so I wasnt on the road quite as much. Whereas with my eldest daughter, it was, I think, quite a big change for her, a big adjustment," the 38-year-old said on The Tennis Podcast.

She was finding it hard if I had to be the one to take her to school or to pick her up and take her to a club or being around her friends and things like that, and thats something that she certainly was finding difficult, and if I was getting any attention when I was with her, she really struggled with that.
