Although Rory McIlroy did not excel at this year's Australian Open, he stressed in an interview that it was a great experience that he will remember for a long time. The Northern Irish golfer had a bad start and was unable to recover from a disastrous first day with six bogeys.
However, Rory McIlroy revealed in an interview with Fox Sports that not only he, but also his colleagues have equally enthusiastic words for this tournament, in which he appeared after many years.
Talking with Matt McCarty, he revealed how open most players are to playing in Australia in a tournament like this. Australians were eager for such events, and it is known that there are a huge number of golf fans in Australia.
So yeah, just absolutely, its been incredible and even Matt McCarty and I were talking about it out there and I said, oh, what brought you down here? He said, the golf course, said I really wanted to play a tournament at Royal Melbourne, he said.

And he said, I mean, you compare this to a majority of PGA Tour events, this is so much better.
So I think everyone really appreciated the atmosphere that they played in this week, and hopefully itll be the same next year at Kingston Heath and hopefully the tournament sort of grows from here and sort of gets back to the stature that it deserves.
